All rings are completed w/a water resistant finish. A little water is okay. However situations that will expose the wood to prolonged elements such as the sun (UV rays), heat, water (submerged), solvents (especially acetone), and household cleaning products, we recommend removing the ring.
While adding a steel, titanium, or epoxy core certainly adds incredible durability and is better for daily wear. We still recommend the same care be given to those with an added core as the ones without.
Char Woodcraft devotes serious and sustained effort to using only the top materials available for your piece. Extreme thought is given to the perfect exotic or domestic hardwood to be used. But please remember that amazing piece of nature you are wearing, more than likely has been around for a hundred or more years before being harvested. The minimum harvest time is typically in the range of 70-80 years. So yes, special care is required. But the reward of doing so is definitely worth it!
-
Our char process is a unique method of treating wood that brings out the natural characteristics of the wood while making it more durable and resistant to rot and insects. This process is accomplished by repeated burning and flap brushing (sanding) of the wood to remove the outer layers until the visual balance of the two is realized.
